  • 1. Information regarding the application


    This form is used for application for doctoral studies at the Disciplinary Domain for Medicine and Pharmacy at Uppsala University.

    By filling out this form, a draft to an individual study plan (ISP) is created. After the doctoral student has been admitted the ISP is revised by student and supervisor within six net number of months, and then confirmed by the Research Training Committee. The ISP must be reviewed by student and supervisor annually. When filling out the form, please note additional information under question marks next to some fields.

    Obligation of two parties:

    The doctoral student must complete planned project work and courses, literature studies, and conference participation. Moreover the doctoral student must take part in teaching and other departmental duties to the extent determined by the department management/head.

    The disciplinary domain for medicine and pharmacy shall provide supervision, financing, graduate courses, a work place, peripheral equipment and insurance coverage.

  • Motivation from the student why a licentiate degree. If the student later wishes to continue the studies for a doctoral degree, the licentiate seminar must be finished before applying for a continuation towards a doctoral degree.

    • Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7, Section 37: When a higher education institution intends to admit one or several doctoral students, information shall be provided by the higher education institution through advertising or some equivalent method. Information need not, however, be provided: 1. in the case of admission of a third-cycle student who is to complete the course or study programme within the framework of employment by an employer other than the higher education institution, 2. in the case of admission of a third-cycle student who has previously begun third-cycle studies at another higher education institution, or 3. if there are similar special grounds.

    • Additional information regarding financing

    • Copy of an agreement with the financier must be included in cases where the programme is funded by an employer.

      • Doctoral students with a clinical position or employed in industry, please use the following agreement signed by the head of clinic/employer:  AGREEMENT.pdf (will open in new tab). The agreement assures that the doctoral student will spend at least 50% of the time pursuing the research studies.

        • Please note:
          If the intended principal supervisor has yet to become a docent/professor, the planned supervisor constellation must be approved in a supporting document signed by the head of the department. Factors in the supporting document that is important for the overall assessment of the proposed supervisor constellation include the principal supervisor having:

          • well-documented post-doctoral scientific experience, production and independent line of research.
          • their own (external or internal) research funding that has already been obtained.
          • an active appointment, either as a teacher at Uppsala University or at another higher education institution, in regional or central government administration, or at a company responsible for funding the doctoral student.

          • An examiner in a third-cycle education at the Disciplinary domain of Medicine and Pharmacy must 1) have at least docent/professor status and 2) be employed as a teacher at Uppsala University.
          • 6. Entry requirements

          • General entry requirements

            The general entry requirements for third-cycle studies are:

            1. a second-cycle qualification, (Master's degree) or
            2. completed course requirements comprising of at least 240 credits, at least 60 credits of which where awarded in the second-cycle (including a degree project worth at least 15 credits).

            Please upload your first-cycle and second-cycle qualification. 

            If you have a degree comprising of a combined first-cycle and second-cycle, you only need to use the boxes for second-cycle degree.

                Upper secondary education in a Nordic Country meet the requirement for English 6. Upper secondary and university studies in some other countries can also meet the requirement and document confirming this needs to be attached to your application.

                  The estimated planned activity should be indicated as a percentage for the first two semesters (Spring: January-June, Autumn: July-December). When revised within six net number of months after admission, a plan for activity for the entire doctoral study programme should be in place.
